Founded in 2009 by Tim and Rhonda Kent, Redwood Park Communities is instrumental in providing safe, affordable housing for families and individuals who need the support here in Barrie.
From supporting women fleeing domestic violence to providing transitional housing for those experiencing homelessness, Redwood is dedicated to improving the quality of life for vulnerable and marginalized community members.
Redwood currently has five housing initiatives: The Family Short Term Supportive Housing Centre, Lucy’s Place, United House, Second Suites and its Community Support Team, which helps with apartment set-up and move-in, legal support, wellness and mental health support and assistance with food security.
To date, Redwood has created 49 homes, housed over 500 people and furnished over 150 homes.
In addition to housing support, Redwood helps clients access low-barrier employment opportunities and runs a furniture bank, where those who need furniture can access affordable items in a dignified environment.
Redwood works to change the thinking and reduce the stigma surrounding those facing housing barriers, encouraging the community to be welcoming, understanding and aware of the reality of homelessness.
The Unsung Hero award is presented to an individual or group whose tireless work and/or volunteer efforts in our community seek to improve the lives of others.
Congratulations to the team at Redwood Park Communities!
