A Barrie Walmart employee has tested positive for COVID-19, as did a worker from another store in the region, according to a company official.
The associate from the Barrie South Supercentre last worked at the Mapleview Drive West store on April 6.
Another associate from the Alliston Walmart has also tested positive. Their last day of work at the store was March 22.
Walmart Canada director of corporate affairs Adam Grachnik released a statement to BarrieToday saying that, despite the positive tests, every precaution is being taken at the store locations.
“Out of an abundance of caution, associates identified as being in close, prolonged contact have been directed to self-isolate,” Grachnik said. “We have regular enhanced cleaning in the stores and other social-distancing measures in place.
"We’ve informed local public-health officials," he added. "Rest assured, we will continue to take measures necessary to ensure the well-being of our customers and associates.”
The province reported Tuesday that the number of positive cases was 7,953. The Simcoe-Muskoka region has 159, with Barrie accounting for 36 of those.
