The following letter is in reference to 'Rally planned to make waves over sports field at Barrie waterfront,' published May 22.

As someone who walks by our beautiful waterfront every day and cherishes the green space by the Southshore Centre, I propose that, with a little bit of compromise, there is an alternative that will give everyone most of what they want and also positively impact the downtown.

Move the Sea Cadets to the Southshore Centre, where they have access to water.

Move the parade ground/playing field to Queen’s Park, where there is currently an unused baseball diamond.

No precious waterfront green space would be lost.

Washrooms and lights and infrastructure are already there at Queen's Park. No trees would be cut down. There is lots of parking and space to add more parking.

Downtown residents would have a wonderful place to walk to on a summer evening to enjoy sports in a downtown area.

Downtown retailers would benefit from increased traffic and business.

An under-used part of the downtown core would be revitalized.

The Cadets could do dryland training and marching beside the Barrie Armoury. Ward 8 residents would be happier.

I urge city council to consider this alternative solution.
