The month of June is recognized as National Indigenous History Month, and June 21 as National Indigenous Peoples Day.
Throughout the month, the City of Barrie is supporting and collaborating with community partners to provide opportunities to learn about and celebrate the rich heritage, diverse cultures and significant contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
Events happening on June 21 for Indigenous Peoples Day at other locations:
- Georgian Bay Native Friendship Centre Pow Wow featuring sacred fire, traditional music and more.
Some programs and events to celebrate National Indigenous History Month include:
- Indigenous film feature at Meridian Place on June 26 at dusk (approximately 9:30 p.m.), with Indigenous Artists performance and community fire starting at 7 p.m.

Programming was organized in partnership with the Barrie Native Friendship Centre, Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Primary Care Team from the Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle, Barrie Public Library, and the Downtown Barrie Improvement Area (BIA) and is funded in part by the Government of Canada.
