Just in time for the holiday gift-giving season, the Barrie Public Library invites you to shop and support local authors at the Local Author Book Market.

Join us on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Painswick library, where you can meet over 40 talented local authors and explore their incredible works.

“We’re thrilled to host this market for the third year in a row,” says Chantale Boileau, program and outreach librarian at the Barrie Public Library. “It’s amazing how it has continued to grow, with over 40 local authors sharing their work this year.”

From riveting true crime and fantasy to heartfelt poetry and beautifully illustrated picture books, there’s something for everyone. This year’s event features a diverse lineup of writers for children, teen and adult audiences.

“There is so much talent here in Barrie,” says local author Dr. Teresa Woolard. “It’s a great avenue for authors to showcase and sell their work while sharing their skills, knowledge and talent.”

The event will be split into two sessions. Children’s and teen authors will be taking over the library from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with book readings on the main stage from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Then from 1 to 4 p.m., adult authors will showcase their books, offering insights into their writing process during lightning talks from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“Buying a book is awesome, but when you learn about the person behind the book, it makes that book even more special,” shares local author and photographer Jason George, who will showcase his new series at the market.

Another local author, Ed Danko, fresh off the release of his latest sci-fi thriller book, adds, “I’m excited to share my new stories during my two-minute lightning talk. I look forward to seeing my readers at the market again this year.”

The market is also an opportunity for local authors to connect with peers and meet with Editors Barrie to learn more about how to get their books into the hands of readers.

The Barrie Public Library takes pride in supporting the local author community, not just through this event but year-round, by showcasing their work across library locations. Don’t miss this chance to discover local reads and connect with Barrie’s literary talent.
