Damage is pegged at $75,000 after fire swept through a 9th floor unit at a high rise at 90 Edgehill Drive.

Barrie Fire and Emergency Service, Barrie Police and County of Simcoe Paramedics were called to the building around 7:15 p.m. Sunday night.

The blaze was contained to unit 902 where no one was home at the time but the entire building was evacuated for a couple of hours.

The cause is still under investigation and there were no injuries.

Barrie Firefighters rescued two cats, a rabbit and a turtle.

Earlier in the day, another fire destroyed a basement apartment at a home on Grove Street. Damage to that abode was estimated to be $80,000.

No cause determined for that fire yet.

Working smoke alarms on the main floor alerted residents who all escaped safely without injury.

The battery in a smoke alarm in the basement had been put in backwards.
