Barrie businesses are encouraged to take advantage of the city’s Business in the Parks program, which has been extended until Dec. 31.

The program provides businesses the opportunity to reserve space for a set time in designated public parks for activities such as classes, workshops, and meetings. Booking fees are $75 plus HST for a half-day or up to six hours of booking time and $100 plus HST for a full day or up to 12 hours of booking time.

The program has expanded this year to include parks across the city:

  • Meridian Place
  • Sunnidale Park
  • Kiwanis Pavilion at South Shore Park
  • Cheltenham Park
  • East Bayfield Community Park
  • Eastview Park
  • Ferndale Park
  • Golden Meadow Park
  • Little Lake Park
  • Lougheed Park
  • Madelaine Park
  • Painswick Park
  • Sandringham Park
  • Shear Park
  • St. Vincent Park
  • Tyndale Park

Eligibility criteria

  • Your activity must operate in a closed format (participants have to pre-register to participate, for example, private dance classes, yoga classes, art workshop, meeting, etc.);
  • Your business must provide a COVID-19 safety plan that meets the guidelines of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. This is necessary to have in place before final permit approval;
  • Your business must provide proof of insurance for your commercial operation from an insurer licensed to do business in Ontario. The Corporation of the City of Barrie must be named as an additional insured;
  • Your activity cannot include the serving or preparing of alcohol or cannabis products. Food and beverage cannot be served to the public but can be included in your activity.

Interested applicants who meet the above criteria are invited to apply online to book a park. Eligible applicants must submit their application a minimum of 15 business days prior to their requested date for consideration.

The Business in the Parks program was established in 2020 based on consultations with the business community as part of the city’s Economic Recovery Action Plan.
