A Barrie cop charged with defrauding the City of Barrie of more than $5,000 made a first appearance in court Monday morning.
Const. Lesley Johnston has been charged with fraud over $5,000.
While Johnston did not appear herself in court on Monday, Brandon Daniel, an agent for her defence attorney David Wilcox, appeared on her behalf to request disclosure.
Further details of the charges are not yet available and the charges have not yet been proven in court.
Following a lengthy investigation, Johnston, an 11-year member of the Barrie Police Service, was charged on Aug. 27.
According to Barrie police, the incident occurred while off-duty between January 2016 and January 2017.
After learning of the allegations, Police Chief Kimberley Greenwood immediately ordered an investigation into the officer’s conduct.
“We hold our members to the highest standards and accountability," she said. "These allegations have been investigated and are now before the court. Our sworn and civilian members continue to provide professional and quality service, as we are committed to our community."
Johnston has been suspended with pay in accordance with the Police Services Act.
The case has been adjourned until Oct. 15.
