The last thing Allysha Tulk and Kevin Carmichael were expecting over this March break was to be sitting in the beautiful city of Paris, France, waiting to meet and accept a membership from the president and vice-president of the International Dance Council (CID) of UNESCO.

The owners, Tulk and Carmichael, of All That’s Dance and More in Barrie, were excited to start in-person competitions again in 2022 after they were changed to virtual during the pandemic. It was one of the first competitions back in North York where this all began.

After three years of competitions being online, competition organizers as well as dance studios were trying to get back into a routine of how to bring dancers back to the stage while also navigating the changing health guidelines. This is when the small studio in Barrie was grouped with many larger dance studios in the Greater Toronto Area.

Tulk, known for her kindness, inclusiveness and strength, didn’t let this interfere with her optimism and continued to encourage her dancers and keep their spirits up. This didn’t go unnoticed by another studio owner, who then nominated her to become a member of the CID.

The CID is an umbrella organization for all types of dance in all countries of the world. Their goal is to be inclusive of all dances, without prejudice based on religion or politics, to bring peace, cultural diversity, safeguard heritage and promote education to dancers around the world. Tulk has been recognized for bringing awareness of these matters into her south-end Barrie dance studio.

Tulk states, “At our home studio (All That’s Dance and More), it’s so important that we work past just what a student learns about dance — it’s about how they develop as people. Morals, ethics, respect, compassion: it’s all encompassing. I’m so honoured to be recognized for my ideas surrounding dance education.”

Not only does she now have the title of a member of the International Dance Council CID, but Tulk is also looking forward to the opportunities that this can bring her dancers as the first-ever dance studio in Barrie with this membership. This includes being able to offer students international certification of dance studies, and being able to teach around the world, as well as nominating students to become youth members of the CID, which can help them grow as individuals, and more.

Tulk and Carmichael are looking forward to Season 21 with All That’s Dance and More. The Barrie dance school known for their inclusiveness, positivity and friendly environment that also gives your child the highest quality of dance education.

A parent of the Barrie dance studio says: “All That’s Dance and More has helped my daughter build confidence in herself and in her friendships while simultaneously challenging and giving her opportunities of growth as a dancer.” Don’t miss out on your chance to join the growing studio.
