Firefighters responded to a blaze at a two-storey home in Alliston, in the area of Buchanan Drive, on Wednesday evening.

NEW TECUMSETH — Two people escaped an Alliston house fire last night uninjured, but the family has been displaced in the wake of the blaze.

Nottawasaga OPP says emergency crews responded to the scene, a two-storey home in the area of Buchanan Drive, shortly before 6 p.m. on Jan. 8.

"Upon arrival, the New Tecumseth Fire Rescue had already made entry into the home to combat the fire," police stated in a news release.

Police say there were two people in the home at the time. No injuries were reported.

"The fire did not spread to the near by residences and was put out shortly after," police say.

The OPP says the family will be staying with friends and family temporarily due to the damage and flooding into the basement.

What caused the fire remains under investigation.

"It is not considered to be suspicious," police say.

The roadway near the home was temporarily closed until the fire was put out and re-opened at 8:30 p.m.
