Shawn Farah of Barrie is celebrating after winning a Triple Millions prize worth $50,000 in the July 25, 2024 early-bird draw.
Shawn, who works in sales, has been playing the lottery with OLG for as long as he can remember. While he usually plays Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49, it was the Triple Millions ticket he picked up on a whim that led to his first big win.
“I always buy my tickets from the same store. One day, I went in, and the clerk showed me this new game, so I decided to buy one,” recalled Shawn, while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “I was at my kitchen table, enjoying a coffee, when I scanned my ticket on the OLG app. I saw the prize amount and thought it was a joke. I thought, ‘Yeah, OK,’ and left the ticket on the table.”
After gathering his thoughts and taking a quick shower, Shawn scanned his ticket again.
“I just started thinking about all the things I could do. I want to do something purposeful with my winnings. I volunteer a lot and support my community, so I know a lot of this win will go to the people who need it. I believe that is what community is all about,” he concluded.
Shawn also plans to pay some bills and take care of family.
Triple Millions is a limited-time OLG lottery game, available for $20 from June 20, 2024 to Aug. 29, 2024. Triple Millions features three $1-million guaranteed top prizes, three $50,000 early-bird prizes, and 402 additional prizes between $1,000 and $250,000.
The winning ticket was purchased at Little Eleven Convenience on Yonge Street in Barrie.
