THE CITY OF BARRIE

WINTER CONTROL UPDATE

*************************
Priority Roads: Priority road plowing was ongoing all night. Salt trucks were in at 4 a.m. for a salt run. The salt is currently working and priority plows are beginning to clear the resulting slush.

Residential Roads: Residential road plowing started at midnight. Most routes are completed or nearing completion. Sanders started into residential roads this morning at 7:30 a.m. to sand hills, curves and intersections.

Note: Crews plow residential streets starting at midnight, when the overnight parking by-law comes into effect (day plowing is difficult due to parked cars and traffic). Plows were out clearing secondary roads overnight Saturday into Sunday. Plows were back out on again starting at midnight, Sunday into Monday morning.

Priority Sidewalks: Priority sidewalks have been running non-stop since Dec. 14. Just when crews start to gain some ground it snows again, covering everything back over. Priority sidewalks are running 24/7 to get sidewalks opened up and will continue until the routes are completed and cleaned up.

Residential Sidewalks: Residential sidewalks are back in their routes this morning as of 4 a.m. They will work until 4 p.m. today and back out tomorrow at 4am.

Using a combination of City staff and contractors, plowing, sanding and salting is performed each winter with consideration to safety, environmental and budget concerns.

Your cooperation in helping to keep streets clean and safe is appreciated.
