A Barrie lawyer and his firm are donating 550 bicycle helmets to Simcoe County school children as part of the annual Helmets on Kids Campaign.
Steve Rastin, Managing Partner of Rastin and Associates and Past President of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, has joined forces with OTLA partners to once again donate helmets to hundreds of kids who need one.
“There is absolutely no reason for our children to be put at risk while riding bicycles in our communities," Rastin said. "Helmets save lives and we are proud and pleased to do our part to help educate and protect students in the Simcoe County area.”
The 550 helmets are being distributed throughout Simcoe County to needy school children who otherwise may not have been able to afford a helmet.
Bike safety presentations will kick-off the campaign this Tuesday at Trillium Woods Elementary School and St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School.
Rastin and representatives from Barrie Police will be there along with members of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.
In a recent five year study, the Ontario Ministry of Health reported that more than 90 percent of cyclists under age 18 who were killed in cycling accidents were not wearing helmets.
Since 2002, the OTLA's Helmets on Kids Campaign had distributed more than 30,000 bike helmets to children across Ontario.
