GUELPH – With first place locked up, the Barrie Baycats stretched their win streak to 12 with a 20-1 victory over the Guelph Royals Saturday night at David E. Hastings Stadium.
Jordan Castaldo had a five-hit game and hit for the cycle with four RBI and three runs.
Kevin Atkinson had two hits, two runs and three RBI, Tim Smith scored three times and drove in two, Jeff Cowan and Branfy Infante each had two runs and an RBI, Glenn Jackson drove in two and scored twice, Starlin Rodriguez singled twice and had two RBI and three runs, while Ryan Spataro doubled, tripled and had three RBI and two runs.
Matthew St. Kitts (4-1) benefitted from the offence and went five innings, giving up one run on four hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
Justin Interisano and Adam Rossit had two hits apiece for the Royals, whose seven-game win streak was snapped. Brendan Keys drove in the Royals' lone run to score Ethan Mohan.
Jorge de la Cruz (0-3) took the loss, allowing 12 runs (seven earned) on nine hits with four walks and three strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
Barrie (26-8) has two games remaining, while Guelph (16-20) wrapped up its regular season and will finish fourth or fifth.
