The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury will sell a piece of land north of the GO Transit station to Metrolinx, council voted Tuesday.
Council met in a closed session before a regular meeting, in which it approved a recommendation to sell a vacant parcel of land on Dissette Street next to the GO rail lines and just north of the existing station.
The land sale is “required for the expanded GO Station parking lot,” read the recommendation, which also gives Mayor Rob Keffer and town clerk Rebecca Murphy authority to execute the agreement once all the details are finalized.
Council had previously voted in October to ask Metrolinx to speed up its plans to expand parking at the local GO Transit station.
“We’re happy with our residents using GO … but they’re having troubles when they show up at the parking lot,” Coun. Raj Sandhu said at the time, noting the parking lot is typically full.
Metrolinx is expected to start construction for an expanded parking lot in Bradford West Gwillimbury in April 2020.
