Local transit workers are hoping residents will help them get stuffed this holiday season.
Barrie Transit, along with ATU Local 1775, the union representing approximately 150 members that range from operators to mechanics, including specialized and seasonal maintenance personnel, are once again hosting their annual Stuff the Bus event in support of the Barrie Food Bank and Barrie & District Christmas Cheer.
Through the annual campaign, they will be collecting unwrapped toys, gift cards, and food bank donations in support of the two local charities, with the goal being to give all children and their families a great Christmas.
In 2023, the campaign was able to collect more than 700 new, unwrapped toy donations for Christmas Cheer.
Volunteers will be at FreshCo, located at 409 Bayfield St., on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at Walmart on Mapleview on Sunday, Dec. 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
According to an update issued Wednesday morning by Barrie & District Christmas Cheer, the organization has raised $91,600 toward its $450,000 goal.
This year, Christmas Cheer aims to provide holiday hampers filled with Christmas dinner essentials and gifts to families in need across Barrie, Innisfil, Oro-Medonte, Springwater and Essa. These hampers bring hope and joy to those who may otherwise go without during the holiday season.
