Collision with hydro pole leads to impaired charge

TOWNSHIP OF ESSA – On Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, at approximately 6:30 a.m., members of the Nottawasaga Detachment, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of a motor vehicle collision involving a single vehicle and a hydro pole. 

The collision occurred on Barrie Street, north of Robert Street in Thornton, Essa Township.

When officers arrived they found a black Ford pick-up truck had struck a hydro pole with extensive damage to both the vehicle and the pole.

Witnesses at the scene informed police that the driver had fled the scene on foot. A search of the area was conducted but failed to locate the driver of the vehicle.

Subsequent investigation revealed the driver to be Cameron Moore, age 20, of  Springwater Township. 

He has been charged with, Driving a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired, and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, both are offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. 

He was released on a Promise to Appear before an Ontario Court of Justice.
