A group of dedicated cyclists are embarking on a 1,100-kilometre journey over seven days across southern Ontario in support of the 90 per cent of people who don’t survive pancreatic cancer.

The event 7 Days 2024, presented by Stoneridge Lending, will kick off on Monday, May 27 at 8 a.m. at Otonabee Inn, Peterborough, and take the cyclists through Bancroft, Huntsville and Barrie before returning to Peterborough for the weekend.

In its 13th year, 7 Days was founded by Gord Townley to honour his late mother Lorraine who passed away from pancreatic cancer. To date, the 7 Days event has raised over $1.6 million in support of the thousands of Canadians impacted by a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

“The camaraderie, the passion, the joy, the fundraising, the stories ... all of those things happen at 7 Days. But, more importantly, this dedicated group of cyclists and donors create real change for people facing pancreatic cancer,” said Michelle Capobianco, chief executive officer, Pancreatic Cancer Canada.

Pancreatic cancer is a global health crisis. It is currently the third leading cancer killer in Canada and on track to be the second by 2030. This year, over 7,200 Canadians will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and 90 per cent of those diagnosed will not survive.

The 7 Days cyclists are on track to raise $250,000 in 2024 which would bring the event’s total to over $1.85 million in support of innovative research, increased awareness and vital advocacy work dedicated to improving the survival rate for pancreatic cancer.

This year, the full week riders will be joined by additional one and two-day riders for the weekend in Peterborough, culminating with an end of ride celebration at Millennium Park on Sunday, June 2. 7 Days also includes a virtual option so riders will also be participating across North America, allowing individuals from coast to coast to contribute to this important cause.
