The City of Barrie is encouraging public involvement in the development of a new Community Energy and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reduction Plan.
“The new plan will help guide efforts in reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by suggesting ways for residents, businesses, and industries to use energy more efficiently,” says Adam McMullin, Manager of Energy Management. “This involves examining current and future energy use, and greenhouse gas emission scenarios throughout the community.”
The city is currently engaging with local energy and climate change sector stakeholders through community consultations and collecting public feedback through a Community Energy Conversations survey.
“This is an opportunity to learn about the community benefits of a new Community Energy and Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan, participate in the planning process, and share ideas on how we can reduce energy consumption in Barrie,” adds McMullin.
Following the conclusion of the first round of public engagement, the project team and stakeholder advisory group will review the collected data, develop the plan’s vision, and identify energy reduction targets for the community. Further public engagement will then take place to develop strategies to help achieve the energy reduction targets.
Residents are invited to take the Community Energy Conversations Survey and share their energy reduction ideas until Nov. 15 by visiting buildingbarrie.ca/CommunityEnergy.
