The Downtown Barrie BIA is proud to announce that its 2024 festivals and events generated a remarkable economic impact of over $15 million.

Through a partnership with Tourism Barrie, the BIA utilized environics and geocache technology to assess the success of its activities, including the Open Air Dunlop event series.

Originating during the pandemic as a means for small businesses to connect with customers, Open Air Dunlop has evolved into a premier event portfolio.

In 2024, these events attracted nearly 300,000 visitors, driving significant local economic growth. Open Air Dunlop highlights include:

  • Open Air Dunlop — air show in partnership with the City of Barrie and Base Borden (two days, 120,000-plus visitors)
  • Open Air Dunlop — Canada Day in partnership with the City of Barrie (41,000 visitors)
  • Open Air Dunlop — Butter Tart Festival (42,000 visitors)
  • Open Air Dunlop — Classic Car Show (41,000 visitors)
  • Open Air Dunlop — Eats on the Streets (35,000 visitors)

Additional beloved events, such as Lawnchair Luminata Outdoor movies and the Noella Tree Lighting Celebration in partnership with the chamber Santa Claus Parade, further underscore downtown Barrie’s role as a vibrant hub for community connection and celebration.

“These results highlight the power of creative programming and partnerships in supporting our businesses and fostering a dynamic downtown,” says Steve Ricalis, chair of the Downtown Barrie BIA and local business owner. “We are excited to build on this momentum in 2025.”
