What could be better than a free movie with the family in the moonlight?
The Barrie Film Festival is ready to launch its Outdoor Film Series Saturday, June 2, in collaboration with Lawn Chair Luminata.
"We've been doing these outdoor movie showings for the better part of a decade and it has really become a fun part of summer in downtown Barrie," said lead crew member Stu Lynam. "There's a few reasons for it from encouraging more families to come to the downtown core and have the opportunity to see family movies for free. Maybe they can do some shopping or enjoy dinner at one of the great restaurants before the show.
"It's also a way to keep the Barrie Film Festival top of mind," he said. "We always have the annual festival in the fall but we also hold programs throughout the year."
Depending on weather and the movie there are usually between 100 to 300 people enjoying the waterfront location.
"The movies chosen are usually from the last calendar year so they are current and family friendly," he said. "Some kids have never been to a drive-in theatre so this is especially fun for them."
The kick-off will be Back to the Future with Michael J. Fox at Centennial Beach on Saturday June 2 at dusk.
The summer screenings will follow every Wednesday at the new location: Meridian Place. (Memorial Square)
