Gamblers were completely out of luck for about an hour Saturday night at OLG Slots at Georgian Downs.

The gaming floor at the Innisfil casino had to be evacuated just before 8 p.m. after the surveillance system went down.

"As per the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario rules, if the surveillance system goes down the site has to be cleared," said Tony Bitonti, senior manager of media relations at OLG.

"The surveillance system is part of the security and integrity measures in place at our casinos and slot facilities."

Bitonti says when the system failure first occurred officials had no idea to when it would be back online.

It was restored at about 9:15 p.m. but many gamblers had already called it a night.

"Saturday night is usually a busy night for the slots," said Bitonti. "Once the surveillance system goes down, the gaming floor has to be cleared immediately."
