Andrea Khanjin, Progressive Conservative Member of Provincial Parliament for Barrie-Innisfil, tabled a motion in the Ontario Legislature (March 28) calling on the federal government to halt the carbon tax hike.

“As hard-working families across this province are struggling with the rising cost of living, the last thing any government should do is raise taxes,” MPP Khanjin said.

The Ontario government has taken decisive action to help people across the province – from cutting the gas tax, to scrapping fees for license plate stickers, to raising the minimum wage.

The carbon tax makes everything from gas to groceries more expensive. As our government is working to make life more affordable for people across the province, it’s time for the federal government to do the same, and halt the hikes.

“As families in Barrie-Innisfil and right across the province are doing their best to make ends meet, every dollar counts,” said MPP Khanjin. “That’s why I’ve tabled a motion in the Ontario Legislature calling on the federal government to halt the hikes, and let families save more of their money.”

The text of the motion is as follows: "That, in the opinion of this House, the federal government should halt the carbon tax hike set for April 1, which will add 14.31 cents to the cost of a litre of gas, and will therefore increase the cost of everything for Ontarians."
