There was no ribbon cutting but the owners of Fat Bastard Burrito marked the grand opening Tuesday of their new Barrie restaurant by slicing into a foot-long burrito.

Michael Honore, 35 and his wife Delphine, 29, also broke out huge balloons to celebrate the launch of their first venture in the food industry.

"Barrie is awesome and we want to do something different in Barrie," said Michael.  "Barrie needs burritos. It needs freakin huge burritos," he says laughing, selling the company slogan.

Honore says Fat Bastard Burrito burritos and quesadillas have unique ingredients like battered fish, butter chicken, sauteed shrimp and even noodles - a signature item.

Extras include cinnamon churro chips, deep fried mars bars and imported drinks including original recipe Mexican coke with sugar cane.

Delphine grew up in Barrie and Michael in France.

"My message to Barrie would be to come and try our burritos," said Michael. "Whether you come for lunch or dinner, we have a different kind of atmosphere. We do take-out and we have 16 seats."

There are 21 Fat Bastard Burrito restaurants across Ontario.

The newly opened Barrie location is at 506 Bayfield St. across from the Rio-Can Georgian Mall.
