Barrie Fire and Emergency Service (BFES) invites residents to participate in Fire Prevention Week.
This year’s campaign, “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!” strives to educate the community about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home.
“Smoke alarms save lives. Regularly test your smoke alarms, check the power and replace batteries every six months, and replace any smoke alarms that are more than 10 years old,” says Fire Chief Kevin White. “We invite everyone to join us for informative and fun events during Fire Prevention Week to learn more about smoke alarm safety and how to reduce fire risks. Remember, fire safety starts with you!”
BFES will be visiting schools throughout Fire Prevention Week and is hosting several free events, including:
- Fire Safety Talk: Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 10:30 a.m. Barrie Public Library – Painswick Branch, at 48 Dean Ave.
- Meet Barrie’s Firefighters: Thursday, Oct. 10, at 10 a.m., Rona+ at 61 Mapleview Dr. E.
- Ask Barrie Fire: Thursday, Oct. 10, at 12 p.m., Rona+ at 71 Bryne Dr.
Since 1922, the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) has sponsored the public observance of Fire Prevention Week – a week where everyone can learn how to stay safe in case of a fire.
