Barrie firefighters were called to a blaze at an abandoned house on Mapleview Drive East, Sunday evening.

No cause has been determined following a fire Sunday evening at an abandoned house in the city's south end, and it may never be with the structure slated for demolition

Barrie Fire Chief Cory Mainprize told BarrieToday the call came around 5 p.m., May 14.

“This building was on the eastern limits of the city, almost to Innisfil,” Mainprize said. “This was a vacant house slated for demolition and was vacant, so there were no injuries.”

Mainprize said the structure is heavily damaged.

“Due to the severity of the damage, it will be difficult to conduct a proper investigation," he added.

The Office of the Fire Marshal is aware of the blaze, but may not investigate because of limited access to the building, said the chief.
