Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale

  • Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake

  • Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago

A intense low pressure system from Texas is arriving over the Great Lakes tonight. A warm front associated with this low will produce a band of freezing rain which is expected to move into the regions late this evening or overnight. The freezing rain may be mixed with ice pellets at times and this hazardous weather will continue into Tuesday morning.

Ice accumulation amounts could range from 5 to 10 mm.

This could well be a significant freezing rain event as strong easterly winds of 40 gusting to 70 km/h will likely result in widespread power outages across many areas beginning late this evening or near midnight.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
