ESSA TWP. — An Angus man faces several charges after provincial police say a vehicle tried to avoid a RIDE check last night.

Nottawasaga OPP says officers were conducting a spot check on County Road 90, Wednesday night, when they allegedly saw an approaching vehicle attempt to avoid the RIDE check around 11:50 p.m. on Dec. 25.

"Officers engaged in a pursuit attempting to stop the vehicle, however, the vehicle failed to stop. Officers disengaged the pursuit for public safety," OPP stated in a news release.

On Dec. 26, 2024, at 12:34 a.m., police say officers were conducting patrols along County Road 90 and observed the vehicle that had allegedly avoided the spot check.

"Officers followed the vehicle and were able to confirm it was the same vehicle," stated the release. "After the vehicle pulled into a parking lot, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop when the driver attempted to evade officers again. However, this time the driver drove into a hydro box and the vehicle became stuck."

The driver did not sustain any injuries, according to police.

Landon Grant, 19, of Angus, has been charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80 plus), operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs), dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from a peace officer.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.

In addition to the charges, the driver received a 90-day licence suspension and the motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released from custody with conditions and will appear later in court.
