Barrie residents in the area of Patterson and Ardagh roads whose green bin missed pickup Friday had it collected Monday.
The city said Monday evening that its waste collection contractor missed a few streets for green bin collection in the Patterson Road, Patterson Place, Ardagh Road area on Friday due to a new-driver error.
“Once the contractor was made aware, trucks were sent back out to collect the green bins — this happened first thing this (Monday) morning,” said Chris Marchant, senior manager of solid waste and the technical operations branch, operations department. “The collection contractor will complete their due diligence to ensure all routes are completed each collection day to rectify this missed collection incident.”
Green bins contain household organics and compost.
Area residents who brought their green bins back in after being missed should contact the city’s waste operation’s department by calling 705-739-4219 or by emailing RethinkWaste@barrie.
“The contractor will return to collect as soon as possible,” said Marchant.
The contractor is Waste Connections, which also has the contract to pick up leaf and yard waste in Barrie.
Last fall, many bags were left at the curb or boulevard, covered in snow.
Mayor Alex Nuttall said the city would seek financial penalties from its contractor, Waste Connections. The city’s annual yard waste contract is worth between $600,000 to $700,000 and is based on tonnage hauled.
The city had previously said that on top of a record amount of yard waste on Barrie curbs, the city’s contractor has been dealing with staff shortages of curbside collection drivers, due to a nationwide shortage of licensed DZ drivers.
In early December, the city said it was unable to provide the dollar amount that it would seek in penalties, although the city’s agreement with Waste Connections
Residents are reminded to contact the city if they have any curbside waste collection questions or issues.
