A call to the Queen’s Hotel early Sunday morning led Barrie police to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) and the victims of a shooting.
Police were investigating an incident at the 94 Dunlop St. E. nightclub when they got a call at approximately 2:27 a.m. where hospital staff notified them of two shooting victims.
Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that officers put two and two together and realized the incidents were related.
“As the initial call was wrapping up, officers got a call from the RVH about the two shooting victims,” said Leon. “The two males had made their way to the hospital on their own and were released with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
"Officers are now gathering evidence and continuing their investigation in order to seek the individual responsible and bring them to justice," he added.
There have been no arrests or charges, but Leon credited great communication between the hospital and police as a great starting point.
“There has to be that point of contact when someone has a gunshot wound and we instituted that many years ago to allow us to know when someone has been shot,” said Leon. “It made for a quick connection to the initial call and allowed us to be on the right trail to start with."
