It's a done deal for Barrie Central

Property sells for over asking but buyer remains a mystery

The Simcoe County District School has announced that the Barrie Central and Prince of Wales properties are sold.

On Nov. 17 the Board says it finalized a "superior" offer on both pieces of real estate with an over-asking selling price of $5.8 million.

The two school properties were listed as one parcel for $4,962,000.

Realtor Lou Kelly of Coldwell Banker, who acted for the mystery purchaser, empathizes with the curious who want to learn the future plans for the site but is bound by instructions from the buyer.

"The buyer does not want to be identified at this point but promises they will have something to say in the near future," said Kelly.  "I'm certainly very pleased about the sale. I think it's going to be good for Barrie. The school board closed the school and it was going to be a derelict building but now it's going to be a great improvement."

Shannon MacIntyre, the broker who acted for the school board expressed similar sentiments.

"I'm thrilled for both sides, the school board and the buyer," said MacIntyre of Sutton Group Incentive Realty. "The buyers will be a nice introduction to the Barrie market and I wish them all the best in their endeavor."

MacIntyre said it was a "pleasure" to work with the school board and noted this is the fourth property to be sold over-asking price by her firm during the five years it has been retained by the board.

The SCDSB is bound by confidentiality and unable to disclose the purchaser.

The sale will officially close on January 31, 2017.
