With just one week left before Christmas Cheer starts distributing food and toy hampers to local families in need, they are currently sitting at $105,000 raised, of their $250,000 fundraising goal.

Barrie and District Christmas Cheer board members are working around the clock to ensure that the 1,650 families who applied for help this year receive everything they need to create Christmas magic in their household.

"We know that many donations come in late, and we expect that to happen again this year, but with the growing need in our community, we encourage people who are planning on donating, to do so as early as possible so that we can execute our campaign successfully," said Leah Wells, Barrie and District Christmas Cheer president.

With applications still coming in, they are predicting to have around 5,500 people that will acquire assistance, which is already a higher number than the previous year.
