The City of Barrie invites residents to join a walking tour to learn more about the Wyman Jacques Arboretum on Friday, June 17, from 10 to 11 a.m., located in Sunnidale Park at 227 Sunnidale Road. The tour will begin at the Hope Garden, at the base of the stairs/ramp into the arboretum.
Guided tours include specific gardens (including the Hope Garden, Xeriscape, Bee Garden, and Labyrinth), the botanical illustrations by local artist Mar Lewis, and information on the arboretum, common purposes and how it is maintained. Staff are also available to answer questions for those who prefer a self-guided tour.
Communities in Bloom registration forms will be available for anyone interested in participating in this year’s event: The Year of the Garden. CIB is open to gardeners of all ages and experience levels, from little bloomers to avid green thumbs. Anyone who registers at the walking tour will receive a potted yellow marigold.
Established in 1974, the Wyman Jacques Arboretum is a botanical collection of trees, shrubs, gardens, floral displays, and constructed features. Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility, and beautification through community involvement with a focus on enhancing green spaces.
