With Christmas fast approaching, Santa Claus had children on his lap with presents in mind at the Lions Club of Barrie breakfast Saturday morning.
April Lance, who is three-and-a-half years old, asked the jolly old elf for roller skates.
Her older brother, Jonathan, who just turned six years old, asked Santa for a basketball, a football and a soccer ball.
Held at the Lion’s Gate Banquet Centre on Blake Street, the breakfast is one of many events the local Lions have held this month to raise funds, and gather toys, for the less fortunate.
“In December, we have given to 10 charities,” said Vickie McMillan. “I know because I wrote 10 cheques.”
“What we’re looking to do is put ourselves front and centre,” added Gord Stanich. “We’re here for the community, but everything has been shut down for the last two years (because of COVID-19).”
Saturday’s pancake breakfast with Santa benefited the Rock 95 Toy Drive and Christmas Cheer.
The Lions Club of Barrie celebrated its 90th year during the pandemic, and is looking for new members.
