Ross drops out of Tory race

Ross declined further comment on reasoning behind her withdrawal; places support behind Shipley

And then there were two.

A post on Logan Ross’ Facebook page Thursday afternoon stated that she had dropped out of the race to be the candidate for the Conservative Party in the Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte riding and had put her support behind city councillor Doug Shipley.

The full posts reads as follows:

"I am suspending my campaign to be the Conservative Party of Canada candidate for Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte.

This campaign has been a wonderful experience. I've knocked on thousands of doors across our community and it was a pleasure to have the chance to listen to your thoughts and concerns.

I am especially grateful to my team of local volunteers, and to local Conservative members, both new and old, who were supporting me in this race.

I encourage all those who were supporting me to help Doug Shipley win the election. Doug is a strong candidate and family friend. I look forward to helping him keep this riding blue.

This will be a new chapter for local conservatives. As conservatives, we need to move forward together to win. We need to turn the page on the politics of division. We need to turn the page on a failing Liberal government.

I grew up in north Barrie and Springwater and I greatly appreciate the support I've received from my community over the last few months. It was a truly humbling and unforgettable experience.

I am deeply grateful for the support I received, and to all those who signed up to vote, I can't thank you enough. I look forward to seeing you all again and working with you in the future.

I hope to see you this summer out knocking on doors to elect Doug Shipley as our new Conservative MP for Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte."

While the race is open for more participants until Friday, June 7, Ross’ exit leaves just Shipley and fellow council member representing Ward 9, Sergio Morales, as the two hopeful candidates.

BarrieToday reached out to Ross Thursday afternoon and asked why she stepped out of the race as her post does not explain.

“I will not be commenting on this and will refer you to my post on Facebook,” said Ross over the phone.
