Making Change, a Black-led non-profit organization, is excited to bring Vibe & Thrive Black Mentor Speaker event on Nov. 20, 2024, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Shak’s World in Barrie.

The free event for youth will feature prominent Black mentors from music, TV, and sports, sharing their powerful stories and lived experiences with local Black youth and empowering them to make positive choices for their futures. Our speakers include Spider Jones (boxer, podcaster), Isan Jupiter (music host), Rasta Phil (music producer) and Michael Williams (former MuchMusic VJ).

When asked why we need events like this, guest speaker/mentor Michael Williams shares, “to inspire young people to look at options and opportunities they have yet to consider in life and education.”

Attendees will be given gift swag bags and prizes containing great local business and organization donations to enhance their experience and leave a lasting impression. There will also be catered refreshments from a new Caribbean restaurant called Patty & Pop Cafe & Bakery, found at 121 Wellington St. W., Barrie, in the Rexall building.

Making Change looks forward to bringing another Vibe & Thrive event in February with a new and unique lineup of incredible speakers with the same theme as next week’s event.
