TOWN OF INNISFIL

INNISFIL – Ten groups are ready to make a difference in the community after being awarded a total of $80,056 by the Innisfil Community Grant Review Committee.

A variety of organizations were chosen including a film club, a local theatre company, volunteer groups and more.

“The committee was delighted to review such a variety of well thought-out diverse applications from the residents of Innisfil. As a resident myself, I am proud to be involved with such a wonderful program that gives back to the community with funds raised locally,” said Rod Hicks, Chair of the Innisfil Community Grant Review Committee.

The projects selected for funding were submitted through community applications during the spring intake of the Inspiring Innisfil Grant Program.

Approximately $86,000 will be available to the community for the fall intake of grant applications, which closes on Friday, October 7, 2016.

Individuals or organizations interested in applying are encouraged to complete an Inspiring Innisfil application available on the Town’s website at www.innisfil.ca or at Town Hall.

$250,000 has been distributed over the past three years within the community from the fund.

“Seventy percent of the Inspiring Innisfil Grant funding comes from community sponsorships and participation in our annual Spirit of the Community events. A portion of the revenues from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) facility at Georgian Downs also fund this grant program,” said Innisfil Mayor Gord Wauchope. “We are grateful for the generosity of our community that has made it possible for the Innisfil Grant Review Committee to provide $250,000 in grants over the past three years.”

The Innisfil Community Grant Review Committee had originally approved funding for nine recipients for a total of approximately $75,500.

Following its meeting on Tuesday May 17, 2016 the Committee approved $4,500 in funding for the Gilford United Church, raising the total of approved funding to $80,056.

There are two annual Spirit of the Community fundraising events: the Mayor’s Golf Tournament (at National Pines Golf Club, Wednesday, June 22, 2016) and the Dinner and Auction held in November 2016.

To become a sponsor for either event, or to register for golf, please contact Jennifer Sheremeto at [email protected].
