The IOOF Seniors Homes is holding their 19th annual Young at Heart Motorcycle Ride on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, in partnership with Barrie Harley-Davidson.

Last year’s event raised over $24,000 for the redevelopment of the IOOF’s long-term care facility located in Barrie.

This year’s ride will kick off at Barrie Harley-Davidson (registration begins at 9 a.m.) and features a scenic country route with a finish line at the IOOF, where riders, families, and residents will enjoy a barbecue lunch, entertainment, raffle prizes, games and more.

With the help of riders, sponsors, donors, and volunteers, this wonderful annual event has raised, in total, over $290,000 for the IOOF Seniors Homes since inception.

“Every year our residents look forward to the bikes thundering into the IOOF and enjoy cheering on the rider participants. We can’t thank Barrie Harley-Davidson enough for their continual support of our charity ride, and our expressed gratitude to our sponsors who understand the importance of increasing long-term care options for seniors in our community,” remarked Garry Hopkins, CEO, IOOF Seniors Homes.

Registration fee is $50 to participate, and riders are encouraged to collect pledges. One hundred per cent of the proceeds will benefit the IOOF’s redevelopment campaign.

The IOOF has embarked on the largest capital project in their history with the launch of a redevelopment campaign to expand the long-term care facility (10 Brooks St., Barrie). The project will create 64 new long-term care beds and 66 upgraded beds, with modern spaces, updated equipment, private rooms, and increased square footage. When completed, the long-term care home will be a 226-bed facility.

The IOOF has submitted construction drawings to the Ministry of Long-Term Care for approval with the hopes to begin construction on the new facility this year.

Currently, the IOOF has over $6 million in funds raised towards the project with a goal of reaching $8 million through a combination of community donations and operational revenue.

The redevelopment project aligns with the IOOF’s resident-first philosophy of care approach to provide enhanced resident spaces and address sustainability issues for an aging population and increased demand for long-term care in the community.
