Faculty are packed, excited and ready for the big move downtown.
Georgian College's new campus for the Design and Visual Arts program is set to open on Bayfield St. in Sept. and all is on track.
"It's starting to look really good inside", said Bill Angelakos, Dean of Technology and Visual Arts.
"We're on target for completion date, for opening and within budget. Very happy about that."
At the site, Angelakos says the flooring is down in most classrooms and labs and painting is almost done. Ceiling grids are in place and lighting is installed and running in most rooms. Plumbing is pretty much complete and crews are ready to install the lockers.
Furniture delivery is expected mid-August.
"We're firming up the move date and it's probably going to be late August, anytime after the 21st or 28th," said Angelakos.
"Everything is on track."
Crews recently starting working on the exterior of the building. It will feature new signage with the Georgian brand prominiently displayed on the facade.
It's down to the wire but the parking lot will also be completed by the end of August.
The logistics of such a move are mind-boggling.
"If you can imagine, photograpy as an example, have a lot of equipment they have to move. A lot of expensive equipment - cameras, lighting and all that. In advance of the summer we had a plan in place to mobilize, to pack to make sure we stored things properly so when the move happens, that we're ready to go," said Angelakos.
The 17,000 square foot building at 56 Bayfield St. will be a new home for several hundred students.
