New staff sergeant brings experience, leadership to Nottawasaga OPP

Staff Sgt. Kevin Bucknor, named operations manager at local detachment, holds degrees in criminal justice and political science from University of Guelph

Nottawasaga OPP has announced a new member of its team with the addition of Staff Sgt. Kevin Bucknor as operations manager.

The detachment says Bucknor is "an accomplished law enforcement officer with a wealth of experience" during his "impressive career."

Holding degrees in criminal justice and political science from the University of Guelph, as well as a diploma in police foundations from Sheridan College, "Bucknor brings a unique blend of academic knowledge and practical expertise to his role within the Nottawasaga OPP," says a news release.

Bucknor began his career with Caledon OPP.

"During his tenure, he took on diverse roles, including coach officer, school resource officer, mental health liaison, administrative sergeant, community response unit team lead, and interim operations manager," states the OPP release. "Through his dedication and strategic approach, Bucknor forged invaluable partnerships with stakeholders in the Peel Region area."

The OPP says Bucknor's commitment to community service is evident through his involvement in various risk mitigation committees, including the Community Safety and Well Being Leadership Table, Opioid Strategy Working Group, Peel Human Services and Justice Co-coordinating Committee, Peel Crisis Response Committee, and the Police/Security Transfer of Care Working Group.

He has also held the role of officio member of the Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers.

In his role as provincial co-ordinator for the auxiliary program, the OPP says Bucknor successfully spearheaded the implementation of the auxiliary modernization strategy, working closely with key stakeholders and partners to promote community safety and well-being.

He also served as the executive lead for the OPP School Officer Review, creating safe and inclusive learning environments for youth.

Bucknor's leadership experience includes senior roles within OPP Community Safety Services and the Provincial Operations Centre, where he served as commander.

"His exemplary service has earned him prestigious accolades, including the Commissioner's Commendation for Community Service, Commissioner's Citation for Bravery, and the Commissioner's Citation for Life Saving," the OPP says. "Bucknor's remarkable achievements and unwavering dedication make him a valuable addition to our community."

Nottawasaga OPP detachment commander Insp. Steve Ridout also welcomed Bucknor to the local community.

"I am confident that the extensive community-focused roles he has held throughout his policing career will greatly benefit our policing team, while also strengthening our community outreach efforts," Ridout said.

Nottawasaga OPP's coverage area includes Essa Township, New Tecumseth and Adjala-Tosorontio Township.
