A light commercial aircraft crash landed at the Lake Simcoe Regional Airport in Oro-Medonte earlier today. There were no injuries.

A plane crash landed at the Lake Simcoe Regional Airport in Oro-Medonte this afternoon.

A light commercial aircraft crashed on the tarmac with its landing gear up, airport officials said. The Orillia OPP received a call about the incident around 12:40 p.m, joining Oro-Medonte Fire and paramedics at the scene.

“We can't speculate as to what exactly happened,” said Mike Drumm, airport manager. “All I can confirm is that a light commercial twin-engine (plane) suffered a gear-up landing at the airport.”

Drumm said the plane experienced a “minor post-crash fire” that has since been extinguished, and he confirmed there were no injuries following the crash.

“There were absolutely no injuries. The air crew safely vacated the aircraft,” he said. “There were no passengers on board, and as a precaution we called 911.”

The plane is currently sitting on the airport runway, Drumm confirmed, with the Transportation Safety Board en route to carry out an investigation.
