A man is dead following a stabbing this morning in downtown Barrie as city police now search for a suspect.
At 7:15 a.m., Saturday, Barrie police officers and Simcoe County paramedics attended a scene at 16 Dunlop St. E.
A 30-year-old Barrie man was found suffering from life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that while there is no one in custody yet, it is believed to be an isolated incident.
“From the early part of the investigation, it does appear to be isolated,” he said. “We are currently utilizing surveillance video in the area and are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything to call police.”
The identity of the deceased will not be released until the conclusion of a forensic post-mortem examination, which is scheduled to take place in the coming days.
The homicide investigation, which is not expected to affect tonight's Santa Claus Parade, is focused on the alleys bordered by Clapperton Street to Owen Street and from Collier Street to Dunlop Street East.
As a result, no pedestrians will be permitted to access this area or the alleyways within the contained area until further notice.
