NEWS RELEASE

ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE

*************************
On Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016 at approximately 6:20 p.m. a fully marked police cruiser from the Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was involved in a collision on Highway 11 northbound, near Line 1 of Oro-Medonte Township.

The police cruiser was responding to an emergency call with its emergency equipment activated. As a result of one driver not changing lanes (moving to the right) in safety, a collision occurred.

There were three vehicles involved in this collision and none of the occupants of these vehicles were injured.

A 29-year-old female driver from Barrie has been charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

The OPP would like to remind the public that when an emergency vehicle with its emergency equipment activated is travelling upon a multi-lane highway and is travelling in the same direction that you are, the law requires you to safely change lanes to allow that emergency vehicle to pass.
