Penetanguishene Town Hall has lowered its flags to honour the passing of one of the town’s volunteer firefighters this week.

"Members of the Penetanguishene Fire Department are saddened on the passing of active member Captain Ron Marchand after a courageous battle with cancer," Fire Chief Paul Ryan said in a tweet. "Our condolences to the Marchand family and his many friends."

Marchand was recognized by the town in 2019 after completing 25 years of active service.

“On behalf of my council colleagues, staff and the residents of the town, I offer my sincere condolences to Mr. Marchand’s family and friends,” Mayor Doug Leroux said in a statement.

"Flags at town hall are lowered to half-mast in recognition of his passing and his years of service to the Penetanguishene community," he added.
