Police investigate discovery of woman's body near Dyment's Pond (6 photos)

No identity or cause of death yet

Barrie Police are investigating the discovery of the decomposed body of a woman found near Dyment's Pond.

At this time, the woman's identity is unknown but police say she is not thought to be the subject of any other ongoing missing person investigations in Barrie.

"We don't know if there is foul play or not," said Barrie Police Const. Nicole Rodgers.

A forensic post mortem will be scheduled to determine how the woman died.

Rodgers says police were called to the area off Victoria Street near Anne Street Tuesday night.

"We received a call from a female from Wellington Plaza last night just after 11 p.m. A male had approached her and said there was a body near the pond. She called us."

Police did a ground search of the bush area and found the woman's body on the west side of the Pond.

Investigators were able to rule out a link to other missing person cases by the identifying features of the deceased woman, Rodgers said.

"There are signs of decomposition but we can't say how the body had been there," she added.

Nearby In the woods there's a small tent city of apparent squatters.

Three tents, a table and chairs, food and a clothes line were among items set up off a path.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Barrie Police Service Homicide Unit at 705-725-7025 ext. 2160 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or leave an anonymous tip online.
