On Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017 shortly after 11 p.m., Police received a call from a female at the Wellington Plaza reporting a male had approached her advising there was a body in the marsh area of Dyment Pond. Police attended Dyment Pond, located off Victoria Street in the City of Barrie, to conduct a ground search. A short time later officers located a deceased body, believed to be female, with obvious signs of decomposition.

Detectives are currently in the initial stages of the investigation and a heavy police presence will be in seen in the area of Victoria Street, Vespra Street and John Street while the area is being processed. At this time, the female’s identity is currently unknown, however this incident is not thought to be related to any other ongoing missing person investigations with the Barrie Police Service. A forensic post mortem will be conducted to determine cause of death and investigators are working closely with the local coroner and forensic anthropologists from the Center of Forensic Sciences in Toronto.
