Original coverage

Barre Police officers scoured properties and fields just outside the city after a possible sighting of missing senior Mandy Thompson.

"We were here yesterday.  We're back today utilizing the tip that we received of the sighting and we're going to expand the search from this point and further out," said Const. Sarah Bamford.

Officers set up the command post in the parking lot of Calvary Community Church on 5th/6th Sideroad near Penetanguishene Road.

"We're focussing on any properties that are out here.  It is a wide open spread of farmer's fields but in saying that there is a lot of containers out here. We see barns, shed, vehicles so we're checking every possible avenue," Bamford said.

There were reports that the missing 72-year-old was spotted on Penetanguishe Road so police expanded the search east of Penetanguishene Road just not far from the limits of the City of Barrie.

"They believed that they may have seen her early yesterday," Bamford said of the tipster. "Any tip is not too small and any tip we receive from the public we are going to act on and investigate thoroughly."

The Barrie Police Search and Rescue Team as well as the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle or drone were being used in this latest effort to find Thompson, who has dementia.

She was reported missing from her Laidlaw Drive home around 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Police say she has wandered before but officers always located her within a short period of time.

"So it is concerning that she has been missing for so long and with this weather it's imperative that we find her," said Bamford.

Thompson is described as white, 5'8", medium build and has short red hair.

She was last seen wearing a black coat with a brown jacket over top and white running shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call police immediately at 705-725-7025 ext. 2106 or 2107 or call 911.
