Police stop guy allegedly driving around with 44 pounds of pot

ORO-MEDONTE – A vehicle stop recently conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has resulted in a large quantity of marijuana being seized and the driver being charged.  

On Tuesday May 17, 2016 an OPP officer from the Barrie detachment conducted a vehicle stop for a traffic infraction on Highway 400 near Ski Trails Road, in Springwater Township. 

The officer determined that marijuana was present in the vehicle and subsequently seized 44 pounds of marijuana.  

As a result of the investigation the driver, Steven Gionet, 29 years of age, of St Catharines, was charged with possession of a Schedule ll substance for the purpose of trafficking – over 3kg, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  

The accused will appear in court, in Barrie, on Monday July 4, 2016.
