In honour of Pride Month, the IOOF Seniors Homes in Barrie raised the inaugural Progress Pride flag to show solidarity with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
The IOOF is engaged with creating welcoming and safe spaces, and proudly celebrates the diversity of staff, residents, and the community.
“Taking actionable steps towards inclusion begins with raising the Progress Pride flag. It’s an important visual that indicates the IOOF’s commitment to diversity and belonging. Our staff have diverse backgrounds, and we support everyone on our team to feel that they are represented with a sense of inclusion,” remarked Val Bennett, director of human resources, IOOF Seniors Homes.
Building upon the core values of compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence, the IOOF recently announced the launch of their inclusion and belonging committee. This staff-led initiative ensures that diverse voices are being heard and is instrumental in designing programs to look at new ways to encourage staff and residents to feel a sense of belonging. The important work of the committee begins with the inaugural raising of the Progress Pride flag.
One of the pillars of the IOOF’s mission, caring is our reason for being, is to respect the rights, dignity, and integrity of all persons and by encouraging inclusion initiatives begins the important work towards compassionately fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion for staff and residents.
