Province announces $6.3M for Southlake surgical care, infrastructure

Newmarket-Aurora MPP Dawn Gallagher Murphy was at the Newmarket hospital today to announce more than $6.3 million for Southlake.

The provincial government is significantly boost funding for Southlake Regional Health Centre to support surgical care and infrastructure repairs. 

Newmarket-Aurora MPP Dawn Gallagher Murphy was at the hospital today to announce more than $6.3 million in funding, with about $4.3 for the surgical care department to increase capacity and reduce wait times, and more than $2 million allocated to infrastructure for 'critical upgrades.'

Gallagher-Murphy said the funding will help ensure patients can access high-quality care. 

“I have to say, I think it is working because I am going to be here tomorrow in a different capacity, supporting my husband, who will be going through surgery,” said Gallagher-Murphy. “I know he will get perfect care right here at Southlake, and I will be by his side.”

Newmarket Mayor John Taylor, who was at the announcement, said he was excited about the funding and that Southlake is the community’s important asset. 

“It touches the lives of virtually every resident in our communities, whether directly or indirectly, whether it’s one of their loved ones, their neighbours, friend or themselves. I was born here, and my children were born here.”
